The Winter Solstice is known as the shortest day of the year (also the longest night of the year) and in Latin the word ‘Solstice’ literally means “sun” (sol) “to stand still” (sistere)

A solstice is an event that occurs when the Sun appears to reach its most northerly or southerly excursion relative to the celestial equator on the celestial sphere. 
 
The Winter Solstice is on Monday 21^st December 2020 and this Solstice is significant because on this date the two largest planets in our Solar system, Jupiter and Saturn, are the closer to each other and to this planet than they have been for 400 years. In terms of astrology the impact of this famous conjunction (or meeting) is expected to be global and to last at least 20 years. Article to follow.
